From the President

Hello and welcome to summer 2011!

Summer is my favorite season. It’s time to enjoy family and friends and explore exciting destinations and enjoy a little relaxation. We can help you enjoy your summer by providing full disaster recovery planning, setup a fully redundant computing environment for your business and provide a full IT staff that can monitor and manage your entire IT infrastructure and provide you peace of mind. Call or email me tdemarco@corcystems.com to find out how easy it is to protect your business. I wish you all continued success and look forward to continuing to grow our businesses together.

5 Skills for a Successful Life
by Marlene Chism

From my experience as a speaker and consultant, it seems that striving for success creates much unnecessary drama. The image that comes to mind for me is rowing with all of your might to get to an island that never appears. When do I get there? How do I get there faster? What if someone else gets there first? If there is drama in the boat, getting to the island isn’t going to be much better.

With that in mind, here are five skills that will make your success journey one worth savoring.

1. Define success
2. Seek and experience joy
3. Take care of yourself
4. Master your beliefs
5. Own your choices

Top 10 Things Your IT Professional Would Like You to Know
Diana Johnson, Wood Networks

Sometimes it seems like your IT guy speaks another language. Some of the words sound like English, but surely the definition differs. Perhaps there is an alien life form that currently inhabits his body. Which would make sense, wouldn’t it? I mean how else does he work his IT magic, if not by using some extra-terrestrial super power? Well, in an effort to bring peace to our species and understanding to the human race, I have compiled a top 10 list to cover some of the more basic phrases.

Stretch Your IT Budget with These 6 Technology Tips
used with permission from HP Small Business Center

For small- and medium-sized companies, the difference between a successful year and a dismal one often comes down to how well they can stick to the b-word: BUDGET.

Luckily, the recipe for budgeting success is simple: spend less, while making more. But there’s a virulent SMB myth that — especially in a weak economy — the only way to save money is to forgo buying the new computers, servers, and printers that your employees need. Not true.

Below are some simple reasons why investing in technology can actually save you money over the long term.

1. Understand the total cost of ownership (TCO)
Many SMB owners suffer from sticker shock when contemplating the upfront costs of buying new equipment. Unfortunately, they don’t see how much higher the overall price tag is for holding onto old, outdated machines when you factor in maintenance, resale value, and energy consumption.

Business Resiliency Prevents Downtime,
Data Loss & Disaster

For years, midsize companies have protected themselves against downtime and data loss caused by disasters such as hurricanes and fires. But in today's intelligent and interconnected world, where information is one of the most valuable assets a business can have, many midsize companies are not doing enough to protect themselves from the full range of risk.

Business Continuity Tip

Safety is Key

A disaster can strike at any time. You and your coworkers should know what to grab and where to go if an emergency happens.

Does your company have an emergency plan in place? Ask around, and if no plan is in place, help create one.

Employee safety should be THE top priority when disaster strikes. When an emergency happens it is important for employees to react quickly and with purpose. Knowledge and practice are paramount.
